In the first quarter of 2025, the French spared 18.8 % of their income. Unheard of for several decades.

While the 2025 tax collection should be good, INSEE reveals that the savings of the French is at the highest. In the first quarter of 2025, the French put 18.8 % of their income aside. A record savings rate, unheard of for 45 years outside COVID crisis. Uncertainties are multiplying: economic, political, international. In one year, French savings increased by an additional 20 billion euros which inflate current accounts, booklets A or life insurance.

Of the 20 billion euros spared, two -thirds come from over 65, therefore essentially retirees. And for good reason, retirement pensions were revalued by approximately 5 % in 2024, more than wages which were increased by 2 % over the same period. It is also much more than the price increase, which has slowed down. An additional purchasing power that has not been consumed but saved.
