A remake of the last quarter final!

Thanks in particular to a double from Jiuta Wainiqolo, Toulon dominated the cheetahs and joined the quarter -finals of the Cup challenge. The RCT will receive Lyon, winner on the field of the Stade Français, in a remake of the final of last year. For its part, Racing 92 was largely beaten in South Africa by the Lions.

Toulon 36-21 Cheetahs

Toulon intends to relive a CUP challenge final. In front of its audience at the Mayol stadium, the Var club launched perfectly the final phase of the competition with a very clear victory over the Cheetahs in the round of 16. After having been deceived by the wind on penalty in the 10th minute, Thomas Salles went to flatten the first test himself shortly before the quarter of an hour of play, concluding an action initiated by his forwards and a Dan Biggar caviar. Outdated, the South Africans finished the first act in fourteen, Rynier Bernardo paying the indiscipline of his team. Teddy Baubigny was then able to flatten a perfectly carried out a ball. On the last action, Aymeric Luc allowed the RCT to join the locker room with 19 points ahead, raising a clever foot pass by Benoît Paillaugue. As soon as the cheetahs were recovered, the cheetahs woke up thanks to Marko Janse Van Rensburg barely entered into play. The hooker forced the passage in the Toulon defense to flatten. The RCT replied through Facundo Isa, perfectly offset after a succession of passes. 25 minutes from the mermaid, Jiuta Wainiqolo pointed out by playing the defense of the cheetahs at the end of the line to go to Lady. Cohen Jasper gave a smile to South African supporters at the time of play. The Var collective did wonder about the last ten minutes to launch Jiuta Wainqolo to his double. At the end of the match, Rynier Bernardo was able to take advantage of the power of his forwards to register the third test of the Cheetahs. The yellow card received by Matthias Halagahu, author of a ball-free tackle remained an adventure, without consequence for the RCT, which is brilliantly qualified for the quarter-finals (36-21).

Stade Français 24-41 Lyon

And in quarters, next week, the Var people will be entitled to a remake of the final of last year, since they will receive the Lou, holding the title, who went to win on the field of the Stade Français: 24-41. The meeting was only decanted at the end in favor of the Lyonnais, after having been tightened for a long time. At halftime, the Stade Français led 10-9 thanks to a penalty by Joris Segonds and a penalty test (20th), while Lima Sopoaga had scored the Lyon points at the foot. Lyonnais who knew how to hold despite the yellow card inflicted on Tavite Veredamu. On the return from the locker room, the Parisians pushed strong and scored eleven points thanks to the penalties of Segonds and an essay inscribed by Théo Dachary (21-9). But the Lou did not drop anything, and benefited from a trial of penalty in the 51st, after the yellow card inflicted on Peniasi Dakuwaqa, then Baptiste Couilloud spun in the spotlight to allow the Lou to pass in front of the transformation (21-23). Segonds gave the roses the advantage for eight minutes (24-23), before Sopoaga registered two new penalties, including a long distance despite the pouring rain (24-29). The Lyonnais finally pushed the nail with a test by Guillaume Marchand on a worn ball (24-36). And at La Sirène, Ethan Dumortier definitively sealed the Lyon victory on a flashing. The Lou can always dream of the double, while Parisians can now focus 100% on the Top 14.

Lions 51-28 Racing 92

Published in a CUP challenge after a disappointing course in Champions Cup, Racing 92 will be able, like its neighbor, also focus on the championship. The Ile-de-France club was swept away in South Africa, by the Lions of Johannesburg, who won 51-28, having however played 14 from the 18th minute after the expulsion of Tshituka! At halftime, the South Africans already led 27-14, thanks to Essays from Louw (4th), Van Der Merwe (7th), Maxwane (22nd) and Ventle (40th), while Thomas Moukoro had marked the two Essays of the Ile-de-France (11th and 28th). In the second period, Louw (52nd), Lombard (54th) and Nohamba (66th) spun in the in-goal for the Lions, while Racing maintained the hope by Ben Voalavola (48th) and Donovan Taofifenua (58th). It is not yet this season that Racing 92 will triumph on the European scene …
