Crowded halls and tired families, eyes riveted on screens for hours. Friday July 4 at Paris-Orly airport, it is the cold shower for the first summer vacationers. In total, more than a thousand flights canceled that day from France or on arrival, with in particular 40 % of cancellations from Paris airports. The south of France is also strongly affected: 30 % of cancellations in Lyon (Rhône), Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) or Ajaccio (Corsica), and even 50 % in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes). Disturbances caused by a strike by air controllers.
Result: holidays to reorganize or postpone. An intolerable mess, denounce tourism professionals, like the boss of a Marseille hotel: “On the three evenings we were complete. The cancellations we make that we had five free rooms today, 19 for Saturday evening and 12 for Sunday”. The strike notice was running until the evening of Friday.
