An orthopedic surgeon from Aubagne hospital (Bouches-du-Rhône) was sentenced Tuesday, November 4 to two years in prison for social security fraud, we learned HERE Provence (ex-France Bleu) with the Marseille court.
This head of department at the Edmond-Garcin hospital in Aubagne was accused of having embezzled more than 450,000 euros to the detriment of Social Security. In addition to a two-year suspended prison sentence, he also received a fine of 100,000 euros and a five-year ban on practicing.
For three years, between 2019 and 2022, this surgeon invoiced fraudulent operations to several primary health insurance funds, and took credit for operations performed by other surgeons, which allowed him to multiply his income sixfold. He contests the amounts that the courts accuse him of having embezzled; they will be established at a hearing on civil interest on March 13.
