It was a paradise for influencers: the Saint-Chély-du-Tarn waterfall, in Lozère. Thousands of tourists took photos in front of its emblematic rock. A huge hanging stone, covered in moss. But for a week, the landscape has no longer been the same. The rock collapsed. An astonishing event which attracts many curious people.

“I didn’t know about it at all, I discovered it by looking on the Internet and so I saw a week ago that it had fallen and so I wanted to see what it was like”explains a young woman. “I learned about it through social networks and I found it impressive in the images but in fact, when you get there, it’s really a block, it’s not a rock, it’s a huge block that has broken away”notes another visitor.

This natural phenomenon is probably explained by the erosion of the rock made of limestone. But the village has other assets to continue to attract tourists. “There is the church, there are the beaches which are also nice. Then this village, already nestled in this little hollow, is already magnificent. That’s life, but that’s how it is, it’s nature, it takes its rights and it moves forward and it doesn’t wait for us”comments Alain Chmiel, mayor (SE) of the commune of Gorges-du-Tarn-Causses.

The fall of the rock did not cause any damage, but checks must be made on neighboring homes to see if they have not been weakened.
