A 30-year-old worker died Thursday October 23, around 10 a.m., on the construction site of the future Halles gourmandes in Cluses (Haute-Savoie), reports HERE Pays de Savoie (ex-France-Bleu) from consistent sources.

According to information from ICI Pays de Savoie, the man was found trapped under a forklift. He was delivering equipment, a refrigerated display case, when he was crushed by the pallet during unloading. The accident occurred in the parking lot in front of Les Halles. The man died in the fire ambulance while being transferred to hospital.

An investigation into manslaughter in the context of work was opened by the Bonneville public prosecutor’s office, which referred the matter to the Labor Inspectorate, in co-referral with the Scionzier gendarmerie brigade. A medico-psychological emergency cell was activated for the construction workers in a state of shock.

Contacted by ICI Pays de Savoie, the mayor of Cluses Jean-Philippe Mas deplores “a tragic accident”, which occurred “during the last phase of development of Les Halles”. After two years of construction, the new Halles gourmandes are due to open in mid-November.
