Between annoyance, disappointment and nostalgia, Lucas Hernandez returned to his eventful departure from AC Milan during an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.
Six seasons spent at AC Milan, 262 matches played and no less than 34 goals, Theo Hernandez’s stint between 2019 and 2025 will have left its mark in the Lombard capital. Both for his great performances and his rides from one surface to another, as well as for the controversies against him.
Notably during his departure from the club last summer to Al Hilal for 25 million euros. Now exiled in Saudi Arabia, the Frenchman returned to this subject at length for the first time during an interview given to the Gazzetta du Sport. And the least we can say is that the French international (41 caps) did not mince his words.
“My priority was to stay”first wanted to recall Theo Hernandez. “I deserved better treatment. I didn’t expect it. Some teammates pushed me to stay, but when a coach calls you and says “if you stay here, we’ll kick you from the team,” what can I do? I’m looking for something else”he protested afterwards.
Hernandez: “I never asked for exorbitant compensation”
As explained previously, the left side wanted to continue the adventure alongside AC Milan, and thus denounces lies about him concerning the reasons for his departure to the Gulf. “ I have never asked for exorbitant compensation for a contract extension, nor insisted on being transferred. This is all false,” assured the 28-year-old.
A scenario very similar to that which Mike Maignan is currently experiencing with the Rossoneri. The goalkeeper has still not extended his contract with Milan, while the Italian press has been announcing for several weeks that the Frenchman is demanding a salary higher than that offered by his club. “He was in a similar situation to me, and it didn’t end well.”comments Theo Hernandez. It now remains to be seen whether the outcome will be the same. As a reminder, the doorman will be at the end of his contract in June 2026.
