Negotiations around the budget continue in an electric atmosphere in the National Assembly. Friday, October 31, deputies rejected the Zucman tax on the wealthiest. At the same time, Sébastien Lecornu said he was ready to renounce the freezing of retirement pensions and social minimums. Sufficient concessions to avoid PS censorship?

How can Sébastien Lecornu escape censorship? Friday October 31, he tried to regain control, because the famous Zucman tax on the ultra-rich, demanded by the socialists, was rejected by the Assembly. The Prime Minister calls for a change of method. “I will meet with all the group presidents to try to find a solution. In any case, I repeat, good faith must guide us. It’s not an easy situation. I think everyone shares it.”said Sébastien Lecornu at the Palais Bourbon.

To find a compromise, the head of government is making gestures towards the PS. No more freezing of retirement pensions, no more freezing of social minimums, a concession of 3.6 billion euros. Insufficient, say the socialists. “If the copy were maintained as it is today, I say it solemnly, there will be no positive vote, there will even be a vote against the socialists, and therefore this budget will not be able to pass.“, announces Olivier Faure, first secretary of the PS.

In this standoff, the PS wants new progress, particularly on medical franchises or patients with long-term infections. The government camp warns about the expenses already voted on. “It can’t just be the Socialist Party budget either. It is necessarily a compromise budget, so it cannot contain all the objects of the Socialist Party.“, indicates Pierre Cazeneuve, Ensemble deputy for the Republic of Hauts-de-Seine.

For its part, the National Rally does not believe in a new method of dialogue. “This is a new way for Mr. Lecornu and especially for Mr. Macron to save time for himself and especially to make France lose time.“, condemns Jean-Philippe Tanguy.

The RN which, on Friday evening, contributed to the adoption of a new wealth tax, called “unproductive”. Clearly, real estate would be taxed, except for the main residence, yachts, luxury cars and life insurance. But the government is against it. For the moment, there is no overall compromise and the threat of censorship continues to loom large.
