The Ministry of Transport announced, on the morning of Saturday, December 27, 2025, that the first batch of buses acquired as part of the market for the purchase of 461 new buses from the People’s Republic of China would soon be transported to Tunisia.
According to the ministry’s announcement, the majority of this fleet will be allocated to regional transport companies, as well as the National Interurban Transport Company (Sntri), with the aim of improving the mobility of citizens nationally.
This operation is part of the guidelines issued by the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, with a view to the rehabilitation and modernization of the collective public transport system, as well as the strengthening of the operational capacity of the transport fleet in all governorates, we read in the same press release.
The public transport fleet is suffering, let us remember, from advanced aging and is characterized by a high rate of out-of-service buses, constantly increasing maintenance costs and a notable deterioration in the quality of services. These constraints have had the effect of disrupting the regularity of services and accentuating mobility difficulties.
