In front of the alarm department of this DIY store, a taxi driver has a hard time choosing. The offer is bloated, just for cameras, with dozens of references. “This one for aesthetics, it is very good. This one for discretion, it is as well. So, I do not know, I read so many things, that there are connected systems, not connected, infrared, not infrared“, Note Azzedine Zitouni, taxi driver.

The best placed to answer him is still the head of the department. “Of my best sales, at 49.90 euros, you have the night vision in color with a mermaid and a flash, and the follow -up of people in detection. Afterwards, there are the most complete solutions. You have to count just over 1,000 euros to fully equip your house”Details Clément Mousset, sales advisor at Castorama. On all these products, since the start of summer, sales have climbed 25 %. Easy to install equipment. And large distribution is not the only one on this market. Other companies have specialized in the installation of alarm.

It is the choice of a mother. A technician comes to home and he takes care of everything. “I had already tried independent cameras linked to my phone, where I could visualize in the house in real time. Except in fact, when I went on vacation, I was constantly on my phone to look at if everything was fine. And, at one point, I said to myself, if I am on vacation, I don’t want to care about what’s going on in my house”she says.

His neighbors were burned. So, it went to a more complete formula, with vibration sensor for door and window, motion detector and a 24 -hour remote monitoring service. “He will make a burst of five photos if he detects a movement, which we receive in an instant manner, and which we transfer to the police”said the installer.

The police then have the obligation to intervene. A more expensive solution, almost 300 euros for installation, with a monthly subscription around 40 euros. These subscriptions are the long -term promise of profit for professionals. So competition is tough. We had quotes for a 100 m² house with six doors and windows. A total of 626 euros with a subscription to 9.99 euros per month here. There, the equipment is offered, but the subscription increases to 40 euros. One last, contacted by phone, offers as a bonus a fog diffuser to smoke thieves. It is a little more expensive, but the salesperson will make a hell of a gesture and promises us “80 % discount”. Among the latest arrivals on the juicy subscription market, a Norwegian company records growth of 40 % per year.

“In France, there is less than one out of ten home which is equipped with a remote monitoring system. In countries like the United States or the Nordic countries, it is one in three home, or one in four home, which is equipped. And we do not see structural reasons for which France would not actually catch up, would not be up to level compared to its European or across the Atlantic”explains Clément de Warren, director of the Sector Alarm strategy.

It is estimated that in France, each year, 200,000 alarm systems are installed by individuals or businesses.
