This Wednesday, Algeria launches its CAN 2025 against a Sudan determined to bring down the Fennecs.
The CAN continues. This Wednesday, Group E will enter the fray. Algeria will face Sudan at 4 p.m. at the Moulay Hassan stadium in Rabat. The Fennecs, who have not won a match in the African Cup of Nations since their success in the final against Senegal in 2019, will be keen to start the tournament on a positive note.
On paper, Riyad Mahrez’s teammates are favorites. But Sudan, driven by unfailing determination, intends to surprise the 2019 African champions. At a press conference, captain Bakhit Khamis sent a clear message:
“We came to compete and offer football that matches our country”while ensuring that his group will be ready “physically and mentally to give the maximum”.
“The psychological aspect is essential”
Coach Kwesi Appiah underlined the importance of the human and mental factor in this difficult national context. “The psychological aspect is essential. We sometimes learn of the loss of a loved one for certain players, which makes things very complicated”he explained, recalling the need for patience and resilience for his men.
Despite these obstacles, Appiah insisted on his team’s goal: “We are working to overcome these difficulties and please the Sudanese people”. He also noted that the CAN has gained in professionalism and standards compared to previous editions, offering an ideal framework for its ambitions. Verdict this Wednesday, from 4 p.m.
