This Wednesday, during the 2nd round in Almaty, Corentin Moutet won against Alexander Shevchenko in two sets (7-5, 6-3) and therefore qualifies for the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 tournament.
After a not very convincing tour in China (in Hangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai), Corentin Moutet is gradually regaining his smile in Kazakhstan. Indeed, after taking on the Australian Bernard Tomic after a spectacular match in the 1st round, the Frenchman continued this Wednesday in Almaty against Alexander Shevchenko and won in two sets (7-5, 6-3) and 1h47 of play.
However, the 41st in the world initially started the match very poorly and saw the local take the opportunity to escape in the first set. Because, after having had to save three break points from the start, the Ile-de-France native lost his serve twice and was trailing 1-4. It was then that the latter reacted brilliantly to reverse the trend by slashing a terrible 6-1 to his opponentwho was unable to stop Moutet’s crazy comeback in the second part of the set.
Khachanov–Struff winner in next round
This failed start to the match digested, the Frenchman then took the measure of the 91st in the world. A new break acquired at 2-1 in the second set allowed him to make the difference and move towards victory. Because, behind, Shevchenko was unable to worry him on his throws. Worse, Moutet concluded the deal with a shutout and will therefore see the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 in Almaty.
In the next round, the 41st in the world will face the winner of the match between the Russian Karen Khachanov and the German Jan-Lennard Struff which will be held on Thursday. Finally, note that in the other part of the table, the Australian James Duckworth (killer in three sets of the Canadian Gabriel Diallo) and the Italian Flavio Cobolli (who eliminated the Australian Rinky Hijikta in two sets) will compete for a place in the last four of the Kazakh tournament, where they could then have to challenge Daniil Medvedev if he secures beforehand.
