An Air France flight linking Paris to Ajaccio was urgently diverted to Lyon on Saturday after a “incident technique”learned Sunday December 21 HERE RCFM (ex-France Bleu) with the company and passengers. The plane had to land urgently at Lyon-Saint-Exupéry airport after an incident on one of the Airbus engines.
According to several testimonies collected by ICI RCFM, the incident occurred in mid-flight. Several passengers say they heard a “big boom”having seen “flames” on the side of one of the reactors, then “the plane started to shake, very hard”. Some say the hostesses asked them to stay seated and “read the safety booklet”. “I saw big yellow flashes, they were flames, a passenger tells ICI RCFM. The plane fell, then we realized we were making an emergency landing.”.
The plane was diverted to Lyon, where the landing took place without incident. According to the passengers’ testimonies, the captain explained that the “left engine stopped working in mid-flight”. For its part, Air France confirms a “incident technique” and specifies that the landing took place in accordance with safety procedures, without any injuries. A technical investigation will have to determine the exact origin of the incident.
The passengers then waited four hours in a hall at Lyon airport before boarding a plane chartered by Air France to reach Bastia, where coaches were waiting to take them to Ajaccio during the night.
