The mother immediately files a complaint with the police, and the home takes refuge in another accommodation. An investigation is then open and the investigators discover a tracer under the mother of the mother, as well as indications of a recent intrusion at her home, in particular socks that have been able to serve as gloves and serflex. The investigation then turned to an association of criminals in order to commit a crime. Investigators go up from the tracing tag to a phone, which they put under surveillance. During the night of June 10 to 11, they notice that this phone moves from Grenoble to Montpellier, then took the direction of Normandy.

The suspects are aged 19 to 24, all known to the police, without anyone knowing for what types of offenses. They are domiciled, for the two youngest, in Isère, for the other three, they are from Aisne, Montpellier in Hérault and Vaucluse.
They were placed in police custody and presented to a magistrate instructor of the JIRS (specialized interregional jurisdiction) of Lille on June 14, who indicted them for “attempted kidnapping and forcible sequestration in an organized gang”. They were placed under a deposit warrant.
