If Antoine Dupont has made his comeback to competition, the Toulouse infirmary continues to fill up…
Stade Toulousain finished the first phase of the championship well. On Saturday, the reigning French champions effectively crushed Racing (48-24) and were thus able to enjoy the return of Antoine Dupont to the field after almost nine months of absence following his serious knee injury against Ireland, during the last Six Nations Tournament.
While the Top 14 will be paused for the benefit of the Champions Cup, which begins next weekend, the Rouge et Noir occupy the top of the standings with two points ahead of Pau and five over Toulon. And this despite an autumn marked by serial injuries.
Because while Antoine Dupont was perfecting his return, several players joined the Toulouse infirmary like Juan Cruz Mallia, seriously injured in the knee with Argentina and out for the rest of the season, Pierre-Louis Barassi and Santiago Chocobares, victims of concussions, Jack Willis, hit in the ribs against Montauban, or Alexandre Roumat, who recently blocked his shot.
Several weeks of absence for Mathis Lebel
The last two players mentioned should nevertheless make their return this Sunday against the Sharks. A meeting that Mathis Lebel will definitely miss. The international winger injured his left hand against the Racingmen and was left to undergo surgery this Monday at the Médipole-Garonne clinic in Toulouse, as the player revealed on Instagram. If the club has not communicated about him, his absence should be counted in weeks and will probably have to wait until 2026 to make his return to competition.
The match against the Sharks should, however, give rise to the great return of the internationals. Julien Marchand, Dorian Aldegheri, Thibaud Flament, Anthony Jelonch and Thomas Ramos for the Blues, as well as Blair Kinghorn and Naoto Saito, were entitled to a week’s vacation after the end of the test matches and returned to training this Monday.
