Beaten by South Africa at home, France remains fifth in the World Rugby rankings this Monday, but Argentina, victorious in Wales, is getting closer to the Blues. The bad operation of the week is for Australia in view of the draw for the next World Cup.
Last Monday, France, which had not played the previous weekend, was overtaken by England (victorious over Australia) in the World Rugby rankings. This Monday, it is no longer in front of them but behind them that the Blues are looking. Beaten by the double South African world champions at the Stade de France, Fabien Galthié’s men lost points, while the English, winners of Fiji, gained points and therefore widened the gap. In sixth place, Argentina, who won against Wales, are now a threat to France.
This week, France will challenge Fiji, 9th, while the Pumas will face Scotland at Murrayfield. The opportunity for the Blues to regain some air in the rankings? England will be entitled to the most difficult match among these teams ranked between 4th and 6th place, against New Zealand (2nd). If this ranking may seem anecdotal at first glance, it is not at all this fall when the draw for the 2027 World Cup will take place.
The draw for the group stage will take place on December 3, and only the first six teams in the ranking will be seeded. If Australia (which will now face Ireland and France) does not overtake Argentina (which will face England after Scotland) in the next two weeks, it will then be guaranteed to face a team from the Top 6 in the world during the World Cup which it will organize in two years.

The ranking is calculated using a points exchange system in which teams take points from each other based on the outcome of the match. Whatever one team wins, the other loses. Point exchanges are based on the match result, the strength of each team and the margin of victory. There is a weighting when the match is played at home.
