Asian company Shein reported to French justice for selling child pornography dolls


The e-commerce giant immediately announced that the dolls in question had been removed from the platform and that an internal “investigation” had been opened.

The Fraud Repression Agency (DGCCRF) announced on Saturday November 1 that it had reported to the courts the marketing of child pornography sex dolls by the Asian e-commerce giant Shein.

The Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Prevention noted on Friday “that the e-commerce site Shein marketed child-like sex dolls”she explains in a press release. “Their description and categorization on the site makes it difficult to doubt the child pornography nature of the content”she adds.

The facts were reported “immediately” to the Paris public prosecutor’s office, as well as to the audiovisual and digital communications regulator, Arcom. “In agreement with the prosecutor, a report was made to the platform suggesting that it quickly implement appropriate measures”also indicates the DGCCRF. This includes the removal of the relevant site pages and product category. The company immediately announced that the dolls in question had been removed. “immediately” of the platform and that an internal investigation had been opened.

Fraud Repression also reported the absence of “filtering measure” preventing “effectively” access for minors to content marketing adult-looking sex dolls. “These reports relate to a Shein site and brand for which misleading commercial practices and false claims as well as several non-compliances have already been widely noted and previously sanctioned”underlines the press release.

Fraud Repression reminds that “the dissemination, via an electronic communications network, of representations of a child pornography nature, is punishable by penalties of up to seven years’ imprisonment and 100 000 euros fine. The absence of a filtering measure is punishable by up to three years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros.
