They were more than a hundred aboard a regional train whose wagons turned. The rescuers still fight in Germany, to try to get the passengers out of the vehicle, but certain areas are very difficult to access. “I keep hope, but we have not yet been able to completely examine what is under the overturned wagons. We cannot completely exclude that there are still people below”said Thomas Strobl, Minister of the Interior of Baden-Wutemberg (Germany).

The accident occurred Sunday, July 27, around 6 p.m., in an area in southwest Germany. Helicopters always monitor the rails. For the time being, the cause of this impressive derailment remains unknown. The human assessment is temporary, according to the authorities, and could worsen over the hours. Following the accident, the German chancellor, Friedrich Merz, quickly reacted: “I am in close contact with the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Transport. I asked them to support the rescue services by all possible means. We mourn the victims; I express my condolences to their family”he assured in a publication on X.

When he came to power, the Chancellor had promised to invest several hundred billions of euros to modernize and improve rail infrastructure, which suffer from dilapidation and chronic maintenance.
