The Confederation of Small and Medium Enterprises (CPME) insists Thursday, November 6 in a press release “on the absolute necessity of a strong and immediate reaction from the European Union to protect its economic fabric, before it is too late”while the French government urges Brussels to go “further away” pour “to crack down” against violations of the rules of the Shein online commerce platform. The CPME proposes several measures to protect French companies at the European level.
The Confederation recalls that it alerts “for several months on the consequences of these low-cost products imported massively, which directly threaten French companies”. As evidence “the real current slaughter of non-food local businesses” in France, adds the press release.
Faced with this “emergency”the CPME recommends adopting measures without delay, aimed at “remove the customs exemption on small parcels”, “set up management fees of a minimum of five euros per item for parcels under 150 euros coming from non-European countries”, “strengthen conformity checks on imported products”, “ban fast fashion advertising”or even “delist online platforms that do not comply with European Union standards”.
For the Confederation, “These measures would send a strong signal that the EU is finally capable of defending its businesses and its citizen-consumers against brutal trade practices that are destroying its economy.” “Failure to do so, there is a fear that the entrepreneurial world will end up questioning the very usefulness of European authorities”warns the press release. “And this, especially since the United States was able to react quickly and drastically reduce the number of packages coming from China”he concludes.
