Becoming an owner remains the dream of many French people, even if it is often an obstacle course, especially for young people. In the North, a couple managed to buy their first house with a small contribution, audacity and tenacity. Reporting.

In Chereng (North), a house has just been built, into which a couple in their thirties moved a few days ago, with the happiness of finally being at home. A pavilion of 145 square meters that the owners had it built to their liking.

It’s the project of a lifetime where we had to move forward step by step, because building is expensive. This property required a contribution of 40,000 euros and a loan of more than 430,000 euros. So, they will both do the final finishing touches.

“We still have a lot of things to do in the house. The wooden staircase is not yet protected”explains Florian Moulart. “We were able to make the house this big because we did things ourselves”confides his partner Agathe Desmis.

Tight budgets and high borrowing rates. Becoming an owner is sometimes an obstacle course. First-time buyers are particularly affected: 36% fewer buyers over the last five years. In France, on average, the first purchase is made at age 33.
