Ski fans in Switzerland are holding their breath. Lara Gut-Behrami, the country’s most emblematic skier for fifteen years, could suffer from a serious knee injury. The 34-year-old Swiss was injured this Thursday during training at Copper Mountain in Colorado, where the speed season will open in a week. Lara Gut-Behrami was training in Super-G, but fell and injured her left knee. She will undergo additional examinations this Friday to find out the extent of the damage and the duration of her unavailability, and concern is in order.

The same serious injury as in 2017?

But according to (unconfirmed) information from the Swiss daily
Clickthe Ticino would suffer from a torn cruciate ligament and a meniscus injury. She may also have suffered a concussion. Suffice to say that if that were the case, his 2025-26 season would be over. A season which must be the last of his immense career, and ending with this injury would therefore be terrible news. In 2017, Gut-Behrami had already suffered from a torn cruciate ligament and a meniscus injury in his left knee and had to stop his season in February.

Two big globes for Gut-Behrami

This 2025-26 season is all the more important for the Swiss as the Olympic Games will be held next February in Milan-Cortina. The Swiss hopes to compete in her fourth Olympics, having already won four medals: bronze in downhill in Sochi in 2014, bronze in giant in Beijing in 2022 and gold in Super-G four days later. Lara Gut-Behrami also won 48 World Cup victories (101 podiums in total), two big globes (2016 and 2024), seven small globes, but also nine medals at the world championships. This season, the Swiss began her season on October 25 in Sölden, finishing third in the opening giant, and had not skied competitively again since. Will she compete in other races in 2025-26? All of Switzerland hopes so.
