Blow for Belgian cycling

Insufficient physically handed over, the Belgian Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto) is forced to declare for the Tour of Spain.

Hard blow for Lennert Van Eetvelt. Indeed, the Belgian, resident of the Lotto team, is forced to give up the next Tour of Spain, which will take place between Saturday August 23 and Sunday September 14. The 24 -year -old runner, who was indeed initially planned on this third and last big tour of the season, has still not completely recovered from his injuries linked to his fall occurred on the occasion of the last Belgium of Road Cycling Championships.

During the last Tour de France, Van Eetvelt should have been the leader in his training and aim for the general classification. Finally, because of this famous fall, the Belgian has never really had the opportunity to express themselves as he certainly wanted, on this large loop. After several days of suffering, Lennert Van Eetvelt had even been forced to abandon before the 15th stage.

Lotto: “He will not be ready in time”

The news of its package for the next Vuelta was formalized this Tuesday through a press release published, on social networks, by its Lotto training: “Lennert Van Eetvelt unfortunately will not be able to start the Vuelta on August 23. Lennert had set himself the objective of the Tour of Spain, but after his fall during the Belgian championship, he suffers from a significant bone contusion at the level of the lumbar vertebrae. He will not be ready in time to be in great shape for departure to Turin. If everything is going well, he should resume his season during the GP in Quebec, Canada. After having already left the Tour prematurely, it is a new setback for Lennert and the team. We wish him a speedy recovery! In the past, Lennert Van Eetvelt has already participated in two editions of the Tour of Spain. The Belgian completed only one, in 2023, in 32nd place in the general classification.
