Benjamin Bonzi reached the quarters of the Brussels tournament after triumphing over his compatriot Valentin Royer. In the next round, the Habs will face the Czech Jiri Lehecka.
Drafted as a lucky loser to enter the main draw of the Brussels tournament, Valentin Royer honored this second chance. In the first round, he defeated Argentinian Sebastian Baez. However, his adventure ended this Wednesday against Benjamin Bonzi, victorious in this fratricidal round of 16 (7-6(6), 4-6, 6-1). More consistent over time, the latter had the last word for the benefit of a last set masterfully conducted during which he left only one game to his opponent.
Benjamin Bonzi has therefore punched in his ticket for the quarters. At this stage of the competition he will find a player against whom he is not really successful, Jiri Lehecka. Beaten in their last three matches, the Frenchman notably lost twice this year against the Czech. Each time without pocketing anything, neither on the clay of Stuttgart, nor in Melbourne during the Australian Open. Seeded No. 3 in Brussels, Jiri Lehecka for his part outclassed the Belgian Gilles Arnaud Bailly this Wednesday (6-3, 6-2) in 1h15.
Besides Benjamin Bonzi, there remains another Frenchman in the running in the Belgian capital. This Thursday, Giovanni Mpetschi Perricard will face Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili in the second round. The winner of this confrontation could inherit in the quarters the number 1 seed, the Italian Lorenzo Musetti, opposed to the German Yannick Hanfmann.
