The use of this constitutional weapon is imperative to grant a “responsible” budget to the country, believes the former Minister of the Interior in an interview with “Ouest-France”.

The boss of the Republicans, Bruno Retailleau, called on Sébastien Lecornu to draw the constitutional weapon of 49.3 to grant a budget “responsible for the country”in an interview with West Franceposted online Saturday December 20. “The Prime Minister must, as a priority, stop ceding everything to the socialists”affirms the former Minister of the Interior, who resumed his seat as senator of Vendée at the beginning of November.
He criticizes Sébastien Lecornu for having granted Olivier Faure’s party “less savings and more taxes, deficit, debt”. Concessions, including the commitment not to resort to 49.3 and which allowed the adoption of the Social Security budget, but not that of the State. “What I am asking Sébastien Lecornu is to go back and seize 49.3 to give the country a responsible budget, consistent with the interest of the Nation, with fewer taxes and expenses”explains Bruno Retailleau, about this constitutional procedure allowing a text to be adopted without a vote, except for a motion of censure.
After the failure on Friday of a committee of senators and deputies who sought to agree on a compromise text, the head of government must receive the political forces on Monday. Then a council of ministers must take place in the evening. The preferred hypothesis is that of a special law, allowing the provisional renewal of the 2025 budget, which would be voted on by Tuesday evening by both chambers of Parliament.
