For the 14.5 million French people who have chosen the “off-peak/peak hours” system for electricity, you will need to adapt your daily habits. From November 1, the time slots will change. Who are the winners and losers of this new method of calculation?

Doing a machine during the day for David Doussot will become a habit. Because he will benefit from new off-peak hours in the afternoon. A boon for this IT specialist who will no longer have to schedule his laundry during the night. “You have to think about it in the evening, that is to say that sometimes you say to yourself: ‘Hey, I would do some laundry’, but you have to schedule it. It makes noise at night, that is to say we sleep on the floor above and sometimes, at two in the morning, we hear the noises of the machine, and then at three o’clock, the beep of the machine ending can wake us up.“, testifies a subscriber to the offer.

So far, off-peak hours are between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., for a minimum of 5 hours. But from November 1, there will also be up to 3 hours during the day, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. But then, why such a change? Today, we produce greener energy and the solar panels operate at full capacity during the day. In the fields, on the roofs of our houses, they produce nearly 5% of electricity in France.

The challenge is not to waste this clean energy to operate our household appliances. David Doussot will therefore be able to save money: “Here, I still hope to save several hundred euros, so I imagine perhaps 300, 400 euros per year, if all goes well, which will still allow me to go out to restaurants a few times rather than paying more for electricity.“.

But these hours are not à la carte. To best distribute the electricity produced, you will not necessarily have the same slots as your neighbor. In one street, for example, 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. for an apartment, the one next door could be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Please note, for this offer to be profitable, more than a third of your consumption must occur during off-peak hours.

The typical profile is households that have a large consumption of electricity, whether through heating, an electric vehicle or having a house with several occupants.“, declares Maxime Detony, Financial Director Hello Watt. This change of schedule will take place gradually between now and the end of 2027.
