Clermont did not say his last word

After missing his first period, Clermont overthrew the Stade Français and won this Saturday with the way (55-20). This successful success during the 25th day of the Top 14 allows the Jaunards to temporarily take 5th place, one day by the term of the regular season.

Clermont’s season is not yet finished, and it could well extend a little. Indeed, after being beaten last week in Castres (29-34), the ASM reacted with the way this Saturday against the Stade Français (55-20), during the 25th day of the Top 14.

This improved success allows the team of Christophe Urios to revive in the Top 6 race, synonymous with qualification for the final phase, before the last day. But if the Jaunards had a smile after the meeting, they had to be stunning to enchant the Marcel-Michelin stadium. Because, at first, it was the Parisians who started this important match better for the two teams.

After a first penalty by Zack Henry (7th), Joe Marchant scored the first test of the meeting (15th). Behind, the English opener put nine more points at the foot (21st, 27th and 41st). Opposite, apart from two penalties of Benjamin Urdapilleta (23rd and 31st), Clermont did not show much and the score was logically favoring of the players of Paul Gustard at the break (6-17).

A Clermont recital in the second half

In just over twenty minutes of play, Bautista Delguy (55th), Alivereti Raka (61st), Pita Gus Sowakula (67th), Anthony Belleau (72nd), Alex Newsome (75th) and Pierre Fouyssac (77th) went to appetite in the insert of the Stade Français, which completely sank this Saturday afternoon.

Author of 14 points at the foot, Urdapilleta was in passing who became the best director of the Top 14 with now 2,499 points (if he passed Brock James, Romain Teulet is still in front with his 2,612 points … but it was at the time of the Top 16). Carried in particular by Baptiste Jauneau, in very large shape and involved on six of the seven tests of his team, Clermont therefore temporarily takes 5th place in the classification (59 points) while waiting for the other results of this 25th day. For their part, heavily beaten, the Parisians (12th, 41 points) leave without point and could well make their return to the red zone …
