CNews continued its rise as France’s leading news channel in October by once again beating its monthly audience record, which has now reached the 4% mark, according to figures from Médiamétrie published Monday, November 3. The previous record (3.9% audience share) of the channel in the hands of conservative billionaire Vincent Bolloré dated from September, and the one before (3.6%) from June.
In October, CNews ranked fifth national channel, 4 points behind the generalist M6 (8%). TF1 remains first, at 18.7%. Among the news channels, of which it is the first for the tenth month in a row, CNews is ahead of BFMTV (3.2%), LCI (2.3%) and Franceinfo (1.1%).
BFMTV, however, reaches a larger number of viewers (49.2 million in the month of October compared to 42 million for CNews), but the audience share of its competitor is higher, because people watch it for longer. Owned by the Canal + group, CNews is regularly accused of propagating far-right ideas, which it denies.
