The custody of the man suspected of having attacked and slightly injured three women with a knife in the Paris metro on Friday, December 26, has been lifted, announced Saturday, December 27, the Paris prosecutor’s office. A decision taken because of his state of health: he was taken to a psychiatric infirmary.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, he is a Malian aged 25, in an irregular situation on the national territory. He fled but was identified “thanks to video surveillance images” from the metro and was arrested in Val-d’Oise via “the geolocation of your cell phone”according to the prosecution.

“Already known for destruction of property under the influence of drugs”, he had “was imprisoned in January 2024 for aggravated robbery and sexual assault after having been criminally convicted”recalls the Ministry of the Interior.

Released in July, “he was required to leave French territory (OQTF) and was placed in an administrative detention center”added Beauvau. “As the removal could not be completed within the legal period of 90 days, due to failure to obtain a consular permit in the absence of a valid identity document, he was released with house arrest”explained the ministry, specifying that it was “under search warrant”.
