The factories of Brandt, who has been out of action for two weeks, will they leave again? Wednesday December 24, surprise with the press conference of the mayor of Orléans (Loiret). On Christmas Eve, a reborn hope. “We have a solution for recovery, restart, renewal”announced Serge Grouard.

The perhaps providential man is Stephan Français, boss of Thomson Computing, manufacturer of French computers. The businessman wants to relaunch activity in one of the two factories, that of Orléans, and preserve 150 of the 350 existing jobs on the site. “Frankly, there is incredible strength, production tools, know-how. It’s also a family story. My father worked at Brandt-Thomson for 30 years”confides Stephan Français.

This partial takeover offer, valued at 25 million euros, plans to retain part of the historic production of household appliances and to add electronic products. An announcement cautiously received by Brandt employees on Wednesday morning. “Yes, it’s good news in the sense that, if it can save 150 jobs, it’s still better than zero”reacted one of them.

For its part, the government takes note of this announcement and recalls that a call for tenders for the takeover of the factory must be launched in January. Before its liquidation, in total, the industrial flagship Brandt had 700 jobs.
