Around thirty farmers spent the night from Monday December 1 to Tuesday December 2 on a farm in Pouilley-Français, in Doubs, to prevent the slaughter of a herd planned for Tuesday morning, after the discovery of a case of contagious lumpy skin disease (LCD), reports HERE Besançon (formerly France Bleu).

Several breeders and supporters of agricultural unions opposed to the slaughter of the 82 animals in this herd arrived on Monday evening. The Rural Coordination and the Peasant Confederation denounce “a massacre”.

According to ICI Besançon, police blockades are set up at all access points to the village while the prefect of Doubs has banned, by order, demonstrations until Tuesday evening in Pouilley-Français, Saint-Vit and Ferrières-les-Bois. The circulation and parking of agricultural machinery is also prohibited. In a press release, the prefect calls “everyone’s responsibility”.

The farmer concerned calls for his farm to be “a test farm”specifies HERE Besançon, to see how the disease evolves in the event of vaccination, since its 82 animals were vaccinated against DNC.
