First package for the Australian Open

The tennis season will soon resume, and the first packages for the Australian Open are being announced.

Tennis fans are impatiently awaiting the return of the ATP circuit, on hiatus since the end of November. And among the most anticipated events is obviously the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, namely the Australian Open. If some prepare to participate, others, on the contrary, give up in advance, often to finish treating end-of-season injuries.

This is the case of David Goffin, the 35-year-old Belgian player, ranked 119th in the ATP. Quarter-finalist in 2017, Goffin is bothered by his knee which prevents him from being 100% for a tournament in 5 winning sets. A surprising announcement after playing an exhibition tournament at the beginning of December in London, where he had also declared
“It feels good.”

“I’m giving him time to heal”

“I’m taking a little more time before returning to competition. I still feel some slight discomfort in my knee, so I’m giving it time to heal. Thank you for your support and see you in 2026” he declared on his social networks.

Yet another physical problem for the Belgian who had a more than complicated 2025 season. Goffin first suffered a serious arch injury, before suffering back pain and then his left knee at the end of the season. A joint in which he cracked the tendon in 2023, and suffered a stress fracture in 2021.

Goffin will not be able to try to save the furniture in Australia after several years of famine in Melbourne. The Belgian has not completed a round in the Grand Slam since 2020, losing last season to Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi. Other Belgians will however play this Australian Open, with the presence of Zizou Bergs and Raphaël Collignon in the main draw, in addition, Alexander Blockx, (116th) Gilles-Arnaud Bailly (ATP 207), Kimmer Coppejans (ATP 234) and Gauthier Onclin (ATP 269) in qualifying.
