Reconstruction of Gaza: Muslim countries adopt the plan developed by Egypt
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OCI) adopted, Friday, the Arab Plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, developed by Egypt, in response to the proposal of the American president, Donald Trump, to take control of the Palestinian territory.
“The OIC-emergency ministerial meeting has adopted the Egyptian plan, which has now become an Arab-Islamic plan”The Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Minister of Foreign Affairs said, Badr Abdelatty, seeing a “Very positive thing”. His remarks were confirmed by his Sudanese counterpart.
The foreign ministers of the 57 members of the OIC were gathered at the organization’s headquarters in Djedda, Saudi Arabia, to examine the plan – approved by the Arab League on Tuesday in Cairo – which plans to rebuild the Palestinian enclave without moving its 2.4 million inhabitants.
Mr. Trump had aroused international outcry by proposing to move the Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan, to make the territory the “Riviera du Middle East”.
During the Tuesday summit in Cairo, Arab leaders also announced the creation of a fund to finance the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and urged the international community to support it.
“The next step will consist in making this plan an international plan by having it adopted by the European Union and by international parties such as Japan, Russia, China and others”said Abdelatty. “This is what we will seek to obtain and we are in contact with all the parties, including the American part”he added.
The alternative plan adopted by the Arab leaders puts Hamas away and provides for a return from the Palestinian authority, driven from the territory in 2007 by the Palestinian Islamist movement. But he was rejected by Israel and criticized by the United States.
