It is a memory that he would have preferred never to report from his holidays in Morocco: an astronomical invoice of 37,000 euros of exceeding internet package. “All night long, between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m., I was debited for 250 euros every 2 minutes. I don’t know if you see what it represents. I can work a few years before winning them, so I find it mind -blowing”explains Dominique Lefèvre, tobacconist.

Dominique Lefèvre assures that he did not touch his phone overnight and that he was not properly informed beforehand. He explains that he woke up one morning with an SMS indicating that his consumption amounted to 30,000 euros. For its part, Orange gives a completely different version. The customer would have validated an exceeding authorization. “He then received 16 SMS, alerting the overconsumption. Our Orange prevention service has therefore done the necessary so that the customer is informed”explains the operator in a written declaration. According to the operator, the invoice is therefore valid. The tobacconist took a lawyer and hopes for a conciliation.

“Pay a note like that, if I have to pay it, (…) financially, it’s complicated”recognizes the tobacconist. So, to avoid overcharging outside the European Union, it is advisable to deactivate your mobile data and to favor on site the connection to Wi-Fi. In the event of an extended stay, it is also possible to invest in a local SIM card.
