Hervé Renard, the sanction falls

Announced in the viewfinder of several African federations for the position of coach, Hervé Renard will not take the reins of Egypt. It was the former Striker Hospheries Hassan who was chosen to guide the Pharaohs.

CoachFrench women’s team (which will soon compete in the Final Four of the League of Nations before preparing the Women’s Football Tournament of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games), Hervé Renard has already decided to leave his post. And for good reason, many African federations think of the double winner of the African Cup of Nations (with Zambia and Côte d’Ivoire).

Renard was announced at the head of the national team of Egypt, but the Egyptian federation announced on Tuesday the appointment of Hossam Hassan, after the sidelining of the Portuguese technician Rui Vitoria in the wake of the failed CAN of the Pharaohs. Top scorer in the history of Egypt (68 goals in 176 selections from 1985 to 2006), he has since resulted in many clubs in his country for 15 years (but without much success).

Still in the race for Algeria?

The return of Hervé Renard at the head of an African selection remains in the pipes. The one who was called in the middle of the CAN at the bedside of the Ivorian Elephants (before the FFF’s refusal to release him for a few weeks) is notably cited among the coaches listed by the Algerian Federation for the succession of Djamel Belmadi, a year and a half of the CAN 2025 in Morocco and two and a half years from the World Cup in North America.

European coaches accustomed to directing national teams are cited, like Vladimir Petkovic, Carlos Queiroz, Julen Lopetegui or Vahid Halilhodzic, already in post at the head of the Greens from 2011 to 2014. Failing to realize this crazy dream of entrusting the destiny of Algeria to a certain Zinédine Zidane…
