In the early morning, on the east coast of theAustraliaAfter a van night, two French friends only have a few meters to do to find themselves as close as possible to the Australian fauna. Dozens of kangaroos appear at the water’s edge and only a handful of privileged can observe the scene.
The van is the promise of being able to stop almost anywhere, thanks to the multiple camping sites of which Australia is full, surrounded by nature or along the beaches. To come and work for several months in Australia, the two friends spent 800 euros each in plane ticket and 850 euros to two for 18 days of van rental. At this price, they have a fully equipped vehicle, with fitted bed, baking sheet, fridge and utensils. Affordable comfort and infrastructure designed for travelers. Indeed, Australia offers thousands of barbecues accessible free of charge in parks, on beaches and in public places.
Nearly 200,000 French people visited Australia last year. And there are so many of them to opt for the van that a dedicated start-up has emerged. Two salespeople have seen new customers arrive interested in larger and better equipped vans. The number of requests has doubled in the past two years.
“In Australia, the rental of a car sometimes returns to exactly the same thing in terms of price compared to the rental of a van, without counting the accommodation which is extremely expensive. So sometimes, as much to go on a motorhome and have this freedom to say to yourself: ‘Tonight, I sleep in front of the sea'”Explains Melinda von Zscherlitzky, salesperson at Vanz Travel.
Faced with the sea or in the heart of the forest, the van has attracted more and more families in Australia, such as French people living in the country for two years. Originally from the Paris region, the family goes to the tropical forest in the northeast of the country with their children aged 6 and 3. Each of their getaways is made of van. One way for them to travel with all the comfort of the house. And even a little more. This is also that, the luxury of Van Life: traveling to the other end of the world and feeling everywhere like at home.
