Hong Kong will play the World Cup

For the first time in history, Hong Kong will participate in a male rugby world cup. The country will be present during the 2027 edition.

Hong Kong writes its story. The selection of male rugby qualified for its very first World Cup. This ticket was officially validated this Saturday, during a very large victory registered against South Korea (70-22). The Hong Kongers, who thus win their sixth consecutive Asian championship, will therefore be there for the 2027 edition. Hong Kong is the 17th team to have validated its participation for this next World Cup, which will take place on the side of Australia.

The opening match will take place in Perth while the final is scheduled in Sydney. In the last two editions, in 2019 and then in 2023, Hong Kong had failed to qualify, after two consecutive failures during qualification tournaments. The country will only be the second Asian nation in history to compete in a male rugby world cup after Japan. The United Arab Emirates, on the other hand, will play a dam against the future finalist of the African Cup.

The World Cup goes from 20 to 24 nations

This will then allow the winner to compete in a final qualification tournament, which will take place on the side of Dubai, between Saturday 8 and Tuesday, November 18. This same tournament will concern a total of four teams which will have been failed after the various qualifications of their own continents. Like, for example, Belgium for Europe. The 2027 edition of the Men’s Rugby World Cup will bring together a total of 24 teams.

Since the 1999 World Cup and until 2023, the competition put in the grip only 20 selections.
In two years, they will be divided into six hens of four teams. Seventeen teams are already qualified for the moment: France, New Zealand, Italy, Ireland, South Africa, Scotland, Wales, Fiji, Australia, England, Argentina, Japan, Georgia, Spain, Portugal, Romania and Hong Kong.
