Hyundai remains in WRC. The beginnings of the Korean manufacturer in endurance next season via Genesis, its luxury brand, suggested to many specialists that the group would at the same time abandon the rally. It will not be. On Thursday on the sidelines of the first day (Shakedown and first special on the program) of Finland Rally, Hyundai assured that it would still be very present in the WRC World Championship in 2026.
Cyril Abiteboul, president of Hyundai Motorsport, is delighted. “We are pleased to confirm that Hyundai Motorsport will continue its participation in the FIA World Rally Championship in 2026. This decision reflects the strong dynamic that we created in the last events and the regulatory support of the FIA, which will allow us to continue the development of our Rally1 car and remain competitive at the highest level. For 2027, it’s always vague …
An announcement which follows the publication of the calendar for the next exercise but also and above all the maintenance for a year of the technical regulations of the Rally1, with moreover the possibility for each team to be able to develop their car via two technical jokers. The FIA reflection on a new approach with a view to attracting new manufacturers to the category is therefore given to later and Hyundai, currently 2nd in the manufacturers’ classification and of which Ott Tänak, one of the pilots occupies for the moment the head of the provisional general classification, will still be there in 2026. When will be in 2027? A large question mark still hovers, however.
