Imminent launch of the “Al Soumoud” caravan for Gaza

In an unprecedented solidarity initiative, Tunisia is preparing to kick off, at dawn on Monday, June 9, 2025, of the caravan «Go submitted»intended to break the blockade imposed on the Gaza strip. Organized by the joint action coordination for Palestine, this humanitarian caravan will bring together participants from several Maghreb and beyond countries.

The official departure is scheduled at 6 am from avenue Mohamed V in Tunis, a gathering of delegations from the north of the country. The convoy will then continue its journey by integrating other groups of participants in Sousse, Sfax then Gabès, before reaching the border post of Ras Jedir with Libya. The final terrestrial stage will go through the Egyptian-Libyan border, awaiting the authorization of the Egyptian authorities to access the territory of Gaza.

On the eve of the departure, a press briefing was held this Sunday, June 8 at the headquarters of the Tunisian Labor Union (UGTT), to present the objectives of the initiative. Slaheddine Masri, one of the caravan coordinators, described the event “Tunisian, Libyan, Algerian, Moroccan and Mauritanian”stressing that this is a demonstration of Maghrebian popular unity in support of the Palestinian people.

“The caravan expresses the sincere will of the people of the Maghreb to end the inhuman seat which stifles Gaza”he said in an intervention granted on Radio Mosaic. He also praised popular enthusiasm, claiming that more than 10,000 Tunisians have registered to participate, although the logistics of the caravan only allow us to welcome 2,000.

Tunisia, according to Mr. Masri, shows leadership by launching this action of international scope. Indeed, the terrestrial caravan should be joined, once arrived in Egypt, by other maritime and air convoys from 42 countries. A symbolic and political convergence intended to send a clear message: that of a firm and determined opposition to the crimes committed in Gaza, which he qualified as “Genocide orchestrated by the Zionist occupier”.
