In total, 190 of the 240 positions at the Erasteel metallurgy company in Commentry (Allier) will be eliminated in the coming months, we learned on Monday, November 3 HERE Pays d’Auvergne (ex-France Bleu) from union sources. Employees were informed Monday morning, during a CSE of the metallurgy company, after months of decline in activity and an order book that was becoming less and less complete.. “It’s almost the death of the site,” reacted with ICI Pays d’Auvergne Dorian Durban, the CGT delegate from Erasteel to Commentry.
These job cuts will lead to the cessation of the site’s two main activities: “high-speed steel” production, for the production of cutting tools, and the battery and petroleum catalyst recycling activity. A new meeting is planned for Wednesday, November 12 to officially record the implementation of the job protection plan. The first layoffs are due to take place in April 2026.
