The scallops, stars of the plates during the holiday season, have never been so abundant in Norman waters. The result of a well -established fishing system, which seems to bear fruit. Report in Port-en-Bessin, in Calvados.
In Port-en-Bessin (Calvados), while spring appears, it is a long season which ends for most fishermen. The last scallops are still tearing out on the market on the edge of the quays on Wednesday, March 26. In a few hours, the fishing campaign will close in the Baie de Seine, where there is the biggest deposit of Normandy shells.
Never had the scallops have been so abundant off Normandy. This year again, the deposits have broken historical records: the result of good management of the resource, with in particular the implementation of a fallow system which requires boats to change each year of fishing zone. In 2025, 70% of French shells were caught in the region.
