Prices that defy all competition. Jérémy Demassiet sells his potatoes for 40 cents per kilo, so a 15 kilo bag costs 6 euros. On board his truck, this farmer from the North tours several departments of Ile-de-France to sell his stock of potatoes. He sells part of what he produces in large quantities to prevent it from going to waste and to help those whose income is difficult.
For his last tour of 2025, he went to Vitry-sur-Seine in Val-de-Marne, Friday December 19. As usual, customers were there to make some welcome savings in the run-up to Christmas. A few cars are already parked and the trunks are just waiting to be opened. They will be, thanks to the 65 kilos of potatoes straight out of a large truck, filled with pallets.
Mam’s even provided a white paper tablecloth so as not to get her car dirty. “She can help out, because the potatoes come straight from the ground“, he specifies. These quantities make it possible to stock up for several weeks. His mother, his sister and even his neighbors have placed orders with Jérémy Demassiet. “They are quality and in themselves, they are not too expensive either,” adds Mam’s.
To sell such quantities of potatoes, onions and cauliflowers, Jérémy has been traveling the roads of several departments of Ile-de-France for five years now.

“We have people who come for their neighbors, for their family, etc. We have more and more people who give us a list with the names and number of bags of potatoes, cauliflowers, onions, new seeds”explains the northern farmer.
Today, if they take ten bags, that’s 60 euros which can feed the same family all month and that’s also where I get thanked.

Indeed, their price is very attractive. At 40 cents per kilo of potatoes, the price is a little relief for the wallet, like that of Pierre and José, because it is no longer just the end of the month that is difficult. “It’s hard, but now it’s the whole month. Unfortunately, it’s from the beginning of the month”deplores José. “It’s true that when there are opportunities like that, we jump on them”adds Pierette.
Despite such low prices, some of Jérémy’s customers are still struggling to get by. “I have certain people who pay me by check and who ask me to cash it later or who give me a date to do so. I also have people who stop by the truck, take seven or eight bags, thank me and tell me that they only eat that much, they are stocking up“, says the farmer.
“It happens that we get couscous! We see it, we have regulars, we have coffee, we have orange juice”smiles Jeremy. “I’m happy to see them every time, they’re great potatoes. And we hope to see them even more often”adds a customer right away. These regulars mark the distribution days on their calendar, they will resume just after the holidays.
