
Without warning and without giving an official reason, the Tunisian president, Kaïs Saïed, proceeded, on the night of Thursday March 20 to Friday March 21, to a new change at the head of the government. Kamel Madouri was dismissed and Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri, 62, appointed in her place, making her the sixth Prime Minister of Mr. Saïed since her election, in 2019. Minister of Equipment and Housing since October 2021, she thus becomes the second woman to lead the government in Tunisia, after Najla Bouden (2021-2023).
The dismissal of Kamel Madouri was made public a few minutes after the dissemination of a speech delivered by the Head of State during a meeting of the National Security Council held on the occasion of the Independence Festival, of which Tunisia celebrated the 69e birthday. Kamel Madouri was present at this meeting, alongside other ministers, of the President of the Parliament and security officials.
In his speech, Kaïs Saïed denounces external influences: “Today, as in a not so distant past, lobbies and their agents have turned to the Kasbah (government seat, in Tunis), Forgetting that the government’s mission is to assist the presidency of the State in its executive function.
