Giovanni Mpeshi Perricard will not see the knockout stages of Indian Wells Masters 1000. The French bowed against Tallon Griekspoor (7-6, 6-3). Stefanos Tsitsipas won against Matteo Berrettini (6-3, 6-3).
The Frenchman wanted Zverev, he finally inherited from Griekspoor in the 3rd round of Indian Wells. A match that promised to be complicated against the Dutchman in great shape, winner of the German in three sets after a magnificent comeback. The trend was confirmed and Mpeshi Perricard cracked. Not helped by its service – 56 % of the first balls, only 3 aces and 5 double faults – the Frenchman was caught in the throat.
In the bad tempo (28 direct faults) and despite a first set lost in the tie-break (7-3), Mpeshi Perricard did not really exist in the meeting. The station wagon just after the loss of its service (2-1, 2-2) was only an illusion in a match which will have lasted 1h16. In the second set, the Lyonnais let out three points on its service (2-1, 0-40) to offer the first break balls of the second set to the Dutchman. Confirmed break and a one-way set (6-3). Semi-finalist in Dubai and executioner of Zverev, seeded number 1 of the tournament, Griekspoor continues the adventure where he will face Tiafoe or Watanuki.
Tsitsipas as a boss against Berrettini
Pending the matches of the other two French people (Humbert and Monfils), Stefanos Tsitsipas won against Matteo Bertretini. Already winner of the Italian in Dubai in the quarterfinals, the Greek dominated his opponent without dispute. A very clean, effective match at the service, no break ball conceded and only four direct faults. Tsitsipas mastered from the start by taking the Berrettini service in the second game of the match and did not drop it to win (6-3).
It will have taken a little more time to break in the second (4-3). On a perfect volley and a white game on the Italian service, Tsitsipas finished the meeting in 1h09. He will be opposed in the round of 16 to the winner of the duel between Holger Rune and the French Ugo Humbert.
