“After five years at the head of Renault Group, Luca de Meo expressed his decision to leave his duties”said the group in a press release published on Sunday. A surprise announcement criticized by the CGT. “It is irresponsible on the part of a so -called industry captain to leave the ship when we attack the most difficult phase of his plan”, denounces Monday June 16 on Franceinfo the central union delegate CGT of Renault, Laurent Giblot.

Under the leadership of Luca de Meo, the company “found a healthy base”, underlined Jean-Dominique Senard, the chairman of the Board of Directors of Renault, in the group’s press release. “It now has a magnificent range of products and has returned to growth”. Arrived five years ago in a company traumatized by more than a year of crisis, in the wake of the affair of his ex-leader Carlos Ghosn, the French-speaking Italian accelerated the electrification of Renault and its rise to try to get the manufacturer out of the rut. According to the latest results published in April, the turnover of the French company remained stable in the first quarter, at 11.7 billion euros (-0.3%), with an increase in sales of electric and hybrid cars.

If Luca de Meo allowed the manufacturer to straighten the head, the CGT delegate points to a “massacre” socially. He cites as an example the closure of the Flins factory (Yvelines), the outsourcing of the ingeniousness to Asia, the use of subcontracting and “His frantic race towards the financier”. Luca de Meo’s departure will be “Workforce on July 15”, Specifies Renault. “This departure makes me angry because he will not assume what he did (…) he leaves by leaving us drifting”, regrets Laurent Giblot.
