While he was going to sign one of the best races of his season, Isack Hadjar saw things go very wrong at the Qatar Grand Prix.
A race to forget for the French drivers at the Qatar Grand Prix. While Esteban Ocon could never hope for better than his final 15th place, Pierre Gasly, who started 9th, lost big at the start of the race due to a collision with Nico Hulkenberg. But the most unfortunate, undoubtedly, is Isack Hadjar.
Sixth in qualifying, the Racing Bulls driver lost a position at the start, to the benefit of the fiery Carlos Sainz (Williams), future third in the race. Hadjar then took advantage of George Russell’s (Mercedes) small problems to get back to sixth. He was going to end up in this beautiful place, until…
Two laps from the checkered flag, Isack Hadjar suddenly found himself idling, victim of a mechanical problem. The Habs had no choice but to go to the stands to give up.
What future for Hadjar?
It’s a big disappointment for Hadjar who could have equaled his second best performance of the season, after his podium in the Netherlands this summer. He had already finished 6th in Monaco last spring, then more recently in Las Vegas. The 8 points that were looming would have allowed him to almost secure his 10th place in the drivers’ standings.
Isack Hadjar will now hope to finish on a better note next week at the Abu Dhabi GP. And above all he is waiting to know what his future will hold. At Red Bull alongside Verstappen, or again at Racing Bulls?
