A long -awaited decision this Thursday, July 31. In Vienne, Théo’s family accuses glyphosate of being responsible for serious malformations of the larynx and the esophagus of the young man of 17 years. His mother who used the phytosanitary product during her first month of pregnancy decided to attack the giant Monsanto, a first.

Is glyphosate responsible for Théo’s infirmity? After years of suffering and judicial battles, the adolescent and his family will know this Thursday, July 31, if justice proves them right. “Whatever the decision, our goal is also to alert people, to alert the dangerousness of this product”underlines Thomas Grataloup, Théo’s father.

Théo, who is now 17, was born with a double malformation of the esophagus and the trachea. He underwent a tracheotomy, then about fifty operations which made him lose his vocal cords. For her mother, it is the glyphosate that she had manipulated when she was pregnant who is the cause of Théo’s malformations: “It must be prohibited, to prevent there to be others like me”estimates Théo.

Théo and his family want to recognize the responsibility of the Bayer-Monsanto group, the giant of chemistry producing glyphosate. Bayer refutes any causal link between a neonatal malformation and his pesticide. Considered potentially carcinogenic, glyphosate has been prohibited for individuals since 2019, but its use remains authorized to professionals as soon as they respect the precautions for use.
