Joao Neves deprived of the eleven

On the eve of PSG-Bayern, the Fifpro eleven of the year was revealed. Some Parisian midfielders may feel wronged.

We don’t really know what credibility to give to these eleven of the year revealed by Fifpro, which are often far too offensive to be realistic. After proposing formations with four attackers and three attacking midfielders, the players’ union this time revealed a slightly more balanced team, in 3-4-3.

If we compare the verdict of the players’ vote (who vote for the Fifpro eleven) and that of the journalists (the Ballon d’Or jury), we find two small inconsistencies. In attack, Kylian Mbappé (7th in the Ballon d’Or) “jumps” Mohamed Salah (4th) and Raphinha (5th), to join Ousmane Dembélé and Lamine Yamal in the eleven.

Bellingham rather than Neves

In the middle, we also find another Real Madrid player, Jude Bellingham, yet author of an average season “sanctioned” by a fairly logical 24th place in the Ballon d’Or. The Englishman is well-regarded by his peers, alongside Cole Palmer, Pedri and Raphinha.

Who could have been appointed in his place? If we take into account the Ballon d’Or ranking, we can think of several PSG players, such as Désiré Doué, Joao Neves or Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, or why not the Neapolitan Scott McTominay.
