Speed up for its financial management, Olympique Lyonnais by John Textor was demoted in Ligue 2 by the DNCG. The Rhone club, which can appeal, is on the brink.
The cleaver fell this Tuesday, in an email sent by the LFP. The title was expected: ” DNCG: Decisions of June 24, 2025 ″. And the verdict is the one that Olympique Lyonnais did not expect.
After hearing of the Rhone club, the DNCG decided to downgrade the OL in Ligue 2 next season. The club can call on, and would thus have the opportunity to present a new financial organization. But the blow is terrible and the threat is real.
However, this announcement is only a very relative surprise insofar as Olympique Lyonnais had been demoted to Ligue 2 as a conservatory, last November. The team then mentioned a fairly colossal debt (175 million euros) for the club led by John Textor.
Textor was however optimistic
The American businessman hoped to have regularized the situation of his club. He was present in Paris this Tuesday, for the hearing in front of the DNCG, with Mickael Gerlinger, director of football. Textor had recently displayed his optimism with L’Equipe. “” We have made various investments in recent weeks. Everything is financially good ”, he assured.
The sale of Rayan Cherki for 42.5 million euros at Manchester City obviously was not enough, and the lack of qualification for the lucrative Champions League weighs heavily (OL is supposed to play the Europa League). If the decision was confirmed for OL, it was Reims, beaten during the Ligue 1/Ligue 2 dam, which would save its place
