La Rochelle secures three of its young people

Before going to challenge Stade Toulousain this Sunday on the occasion of the 13th day of Top 14, Stade Rochelais announced the extension of three young hopefuls from its squad.

Having had a mixed start to the season, Stade Rochelais has been dealing with a high number of injuries for many weeks. The club currently occupies 7th place in the standings with six wins and six defeats and will challenge Stade Toulousain this Sunday as part of the 13th day of Top 14. Despite a complex situation and a limited number of possibilities, the club can however count on the young people in its training. And as such, Stade Rochelais decided to prove its confidence in them. Indeed, this Saturday, the club announced the extension of three of its young hopes.

Thus, Charles Kante Samba (20 years old), Simeli Daunivucu (20 years old) and Diego Jurd (19 years old) all saw their contracts extended by the club. As for Diego Jurd, the youngest of the three, the fly-half sees his contract extended until 2029. A mark of confidence for an important element in the excellent performance of the French Espoirs Team during the World Cup. It was this season that Diego Jurd had his first professional experiences, with his first appearances in the Top 14. In total, the flyhalf will have taken part in seven matches since the start of the season for two starts and a total of 25 points scored.

Two additional seasons for the other two

The second to see his contract extended is Charles Kante Samba. With a versatile profile, the second row who can also play in the third row extends the adventure until 2028 with Stade Rochelais. Described as a “discreet, demanding and hardworking” player by his club, Charles Kante Samba blended into Ronan O’Gara’s collective in the summer of 2024 to gradually have a place in the rotation. This season, Charles Kante Samba has totaled nine meetings with La Rochelle for a total of five starts and ever more convincing outings.

Finally, the last one whose good performances were rewarded is Simeli Daunivucu, who like Charles Kante Samba, extended until 2028. Playing as center, a role which is lacking in La Rochelle, Simeli Daunivucu is the one who has the “most experience” of the three, starting with the professional squad during the 2023-2024 season, for a total of 21 matches played since. This season, there are seven matches in which Simeli Daunivucu participated, for three starts and two small points scored.
