This Saturday, in Brisbane, the British and Irish lions won their first confrontation against Australia (27-19), thanks in particular to tests of Tuipulotu, Curry and Sheehan.
On their momentum, the British and Irish lions provided during their first test-match against the Wallabies. Indeed, after five successes in a row against local teams of their arrival in the southern hemisphere, the players of Andy Farrell signed a new victory this Saturday against Australia (27-19). In Brisbane, visitors did not take long to take the lead on the display board. After a penalty from Finn Russell (1st), the Scottish Center Sione Tuipulotu scored the first test of the meeting shortly after (0-10, 10th).
Behind, if Max Jorgensen reduced the gap before half an hour of play (5-10, 29th), Joe Schmidt’s players failed to chain and were punished shortly before the break. It was this time the 3rd English line Tom Curry who went to flatten in the opposing in-goal, while Russell again transformed the essay of his own (5-17, 37th).
The Wallabies wake up at the end of the match was not enough
Upon returning from the locker room, the Irish hooker Dan Sheehan rushed the point home in favor of the British and Irish lions (5-24, 43rd). Basic at home, Australia ended up reacting but too late to hope to avoid losing this Saturday. In the last minutes, Carlo Tizzano (68th) and Tate McDermott (79th) put two trials for the Wallabies who therefore returned to eight points from the team trained by Andy Farrell, because Marcus Smith had a final penalty for visitors (74th).
“It was a difficult match. No rugby match is perfect, and this was certainly not the case on our part. (…) There are many things we can rely on, we are neither complacent nor satisfied ”subsequently declared Captain Maro Itoje, in comments collected by Sky Sports. As a reminder, Australia and the British and Irish lions will still challenge itself twice during this summer tour, on July 26 (in Melbourne) and August 2 (in Sydney).
